Jyväskylä Female Choir – Women’s Choir in Jyväskylä
Jyväskylä Female Choir is an ambitious women’s choir founded in 1952 and based in Jyväskylä, Finland. The choir consists of around 40 singers of different ages, united by a shared passion for musical excellence and the joy of making music together in a supportive atmosphere.
We rehearse weekly, organise singing retreats and perform several times each year, both in our own concerts and in collaboration with other choirs and orchestras.

Repertoire and Artistic Work
Our repertoire focuses primarily on contemporary Finnish and international music for women’s choir. We also perform more traditional works and regularly commission new compositions from Finnish composers.
The choir has organised two composition competitions. In 2012, the competition was won by Swedish composer Staffan Storm with his work Också dessa dagar signerade. The piece has been performed with a symphony orchestra in Jyväskylä and Vaasa. Orchestral works written specifically for women’s choir are rare in the Finnish choral scene.
Recordings
We have released five albums, and our music is available on Spotify and YouTube.
Our music video Jag talar till mina vuxna barns änglar (music by Kirsi Rasehorn, lyrics by Viola Renvall), released in 2024, was nominated for Sulasol Music Video of the Year. The composition won the P. J. Hannikainen Choral Composition Competition in 2022.

Community and Choir Life in Jyväskylä
Jyväskylä Female Choir is an active part of the cultural life of Jyväskylä and operates within the study programme of the Jyväskylä Adult Education Centre. At the same time, the choir is an independent registered association and a member of both the Finnish Women’s Choir Association and Sulasol, the Finnish Amateur Musicians’ Association.
Dedicated rehearsals, a strong sense of community and musical curiosity form the foundation of our activities. The choir combines high artistic standards with an encouraging and welcoming atmosphere.
